A Coffin at the Doorstep: The Bizarre Mystery Box Going Viral

Mystery Box Coffin

Madrid — What would you do if a coffin arrived at your front door? For Spanish TikToker Alejandro Valmaseda (@valmaseda_), the answer was to hit record. In a now-viral video, the creator—followed by over 7 million people—documented the moment he opened his Real Mystery Box delivery to find not a miniature gag, but a real, full-sized coffin.

The coffin contained the project's only constant: a single €5 bill. "Five euros for thinking someone sent me a dead body? Worth it," Valmaseda joked, as comments and reposts quickly turned his unboxing into a viral phenomenon.

Launched by Madrid-based art collective CAPITALISM ART, S.L., The Real Mystery Box sells for €49.99. Each unit contains the same €5 bill, but the packaging is randomly chosen from 30 possible formats, including safes, mailboxes, pizza boxes, jewelry cases—and, as Valmaseda discovered, coffins.

Other creators have since joined the experiment. Guille Van Dreï (@guillevandrei) received his €5 in a slick leather briefcase, Jose Rasty (@elrasto) unboxed a heavy safe, actor and musician Abelo Valis (@abelovalis) pulled a bright red mailbox, and DJ G. Rich (@g_rich_) found his bill inside a first-aid kit. Each reveal has become viral fodder, turning the absurdity of packaging into a performance.

The irony is the point. With The Real Mystery Box, CAPITALISM ART, S.L. trivializes the contents, fetishizes the container, and satirizes a culture that has turned mystery into monetized spectacle.
